VANITY || A poem written by Nafiu Sulikifili

VANITY
Transition to eternity:
A voyage of no return,
Common to the rich and poor,
And to the wise and simple.

The heart will cease to beat,
The neck will cease to crane,
The legs will cease to walk,
The eyes will cease to sight.

What a mysterious world!
Where all things are married to vanity,
Vanity! A friendly foe
Who deserves the greatest respect.

All will board the plane
When it’s time to pilot the plane,
But for you O death!
Here would’ve been made the paradise.

But for you necessary evil!
The earth would’ve been the Garden of Eden;
With all blessings therein,
The fear of mortality would’ve been extinct.
